What is Counselling?
Counselling is a two way process that takes place in a supportive therapeutic relationship, offering the client time to explore what is concerning them and enabling the client to express their feelings freely. The counsellor not only listens to the words spoken and the problems presented but also takes account of the whole person. Counselling aims to address the cause of the difficulty rather than just dealing with the symptoms. It is a positive process that is often associated with times of personal crisis, but can be used in a number different ways such as personal or professional development.
The benefits of Counselling
For adults, counselling provides an opportunity to rediscover the resources we have within ourselves. It can enable us to approach our lives, our work and problems in a more creative and effective way.
For children and young people, exploring emotional and behavioural needs at a young age may enhance their sense of well being, which in turn could remove blocks to learning. The aim of counselling is to foster empowerment and growth that can potentially benefit children and young people on their journey into adult life.
