WORKING WITH IDENTITY, DIVERSITY AND MULTICULTURALISM (IDM1)
Designed for
The training is ideally suited for individuals and groups who are working in multicultural and mono-cultural environments, experiencing the challenges that diversity and changing demographics can bring, wishing to explore oppression issues or wanting to be re-energized in their commitment to changing racism, sexism, classism, ageism and other “isms”.
We welcome all people that wish to work on their development and who wish to make a difference, be it teachers, leaders, social workers, counsellors, volunteer workers or corporate consultants. We encourage all who are first engaging with this work and we welcome people from all backgrounds.
Learning Outcomes
In this workshop we will work co-operatively and experientially to:-
- Expand our field of awareness of our cultural identity and diversity whether it be from our ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, social, economic or other backgrounds and how this affects our life story.
- Work with our own culturally diverse maps and how this impacts on our relationships with our clients and colleagues.
- Explore our defences in the context of shame, guilt, blame, self limiting beliefs and how this can be projected in the group dynamics and affect the working relationship.
- Be supported and challenged in our own cultural stories and creative adjustments (patterns and beliefs) that limit choices.
- Work in the group to develop a trusting and open enquiry to strengthen our cross-cultural competence and self-identity.
- Practice working with culture and identity as a foreground issue.
- Identify personal prejudice and misinformation.
- Recognise institutional racism and other forms of self limiting beliefs and discrimination.
